Rome Baptist Church (RBC) has a notably cosmopolitan congregation and organises a host of activities to meet all tastes and nationalities every day of the week. Services and events are open to all.
The international service is at 10.30 every Sunday. This is followed by a Filipino service in Tagalog at 13.00 and a Chinese service in Mandarin at 16.00. There are fellowship meetings for nationals from African countries on the second floor of the church on the first and third Sundays of the month in addition to the prayer and worship gathering on Saturday evenings at 18.00. Preparation is currently underway for the annual celebration to be held on Sunday 23 October at 10.30 with traditional music, dance and dress. Guests are invited to stay for fellowship and food after the service.
Many children attend RBC and in addition to the weekly childrens sermon, there is Sunday school for 4-9 year olds during the adult sermon. There is also a crche for babies and toddlers.
The Monday night bible study at 19.30 is based around the theme of evangelisation and has just begun studying Contagious Christianity by Bill Hybels. Wednesday night prayer meeting and bible study is led by Pastor Dave Hodgdon at 19.00 and involves the study and discussion of the Old Testament book of I Kings. On Thursday mornings at 10.00 there is a study for women only of the book True Contentment by Rhonda Kelley.
The English lessons have begun again. Classes, which are taught by English mother-tongue teachers last for approximately 10 weeks per term and are free of charge. Registration is not necessary and all are welcome. Countries represented by current students include Uzbekistan, Poland, Kenya, Italy and the Philippines. If you are interested in teaching or attending, please come along 18.30-20.00.
If you enjoy singing, you are invited to attend choir rehearsal every Thursday evening 19.00-20:30 with dinner served after the practice. New singers are always welcome and preparations will soon begin for the Christmas cantata in December.
Opportunities for service continue. A group from RBC makes regular visits to the Italian Baptist Senior Citizens Home in Centocelle on Wednesday afternoons 15.30-17.00. If you would like to be part of this ministry, call the church for more information.
