There have been 752 road accidents in the Lazio region between 1 July and 3 September resulting in 12 deaths. These are the statistics provided by the local traffic police, who reported that there have been over traffic 8,000 offences committed in the region since the beginning of July.
The most common offences were speeding, not wearing seatbelts, using mobile telephones while driving and being over the legal alcohol limit.
In total, 430 drivers licences were confiscated and over 12,000 points deducted between July and September.
During this time traffic police also provided road assistance to some 9,000 motorists, searched 381 cars and arrested 17 people, mostly in connection with theft or use of illegal drugs.
