Cannes films come to Rome

From 14-20 June, cinema buffs in Rome can enjoy a selection of 20 films screened recently at the 66th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.

All of the movies being shown at the 18th "Cannes a Roma" initiative are in their original language with Italian subtitles. Some of the films to watch for this year include Nebraska (US), The Selfish Giant (Britain), La Vie d'Adele (France), and Like Father, Like Son (Japan).

Prior to this year's event, and due to it coinciding with the change in city administration, there was uncertainty over whether it would receive the usual necessary funding from the capital and regional cinema organsiation ANEC Lazio.

To make sure it went ahead regardless of what happened, in stepped the Italian daily newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano and a group of cinema owners in whose Roman cinemas the films will be screened: Alcazar, Eden, Greenwich and Quattro Fontane.

Full-price tickets cost €8 (an increase from last year's €7), while spectators under 30 or over 65 pay €5. For more details see programme on the Incontra Giovani website.
