A 1.5 million project to repave Piazza Venezia started on 7 July and is expected to continue until September. The repaving will be true to the squares original design by Corrado Ricci and will eliminate holes and uneven sections of road that have been proving a challenge for cars and especially motorini. The project has been divided into small sections so that it will not be necessary to close the square, and work will continue through the night and on holidays. The parking zone near Via dei Fori Imperiali is the first area to be improved; work will then move to the area around Piazza S. Marco (14-28 July), the area under the Palazzo delle Generali (21-28 July), in front of the Vittoriano (21 August-8 September) and around the Atac terminus by Ara Coeli (from 8 September).
