Gustavo Dudamel

In a programme dedicated to Wagner, Haydn and Schumann, the S. Cecilia orchestra is conducted by 32-year old Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel who is globally acclaimed as a classical music rock star whose charisma translates into his music-making. In between his guest appearances with major orchestras, Dudamel is in his fourth season as music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic where he has galvanised the city and become a model of community outreach and education. He is probably best known for his commitment to the “El Sistema” mission in Venezuela that has brought classical music to hundreds of thousands of children worldwide and received huge support from the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Dudamel is often seen and heard playing with groups of young children from disadvantaged or divided communities. Auditorium Parco della Musica, Viale P. de Coubertin.
