There will be a series of performances of the musical Faust in Hiroshima by the theatrical company Klesidra on 5,6,7 and 10 Aug in Rome.

Written by Gianni Guardigli and Imogen Kusch, this project explores the eternal problem of the scientists conscience by taking the story of the invention of the atomic bomb and narrating it through the framework of Goethes Faust. The character of Faust is embodied in Joseph Rotblat, a Polish Jew who helps create nuclear weapons participating in the so-called Manhattan project.

The initiative marks the anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima (6 Aug 1945) and Nagasaki (8 Aug 1945) and is a collaboration between the Comune di Roma, Casa di Goethe, Goethe Institute in Rome, the Polish cultural institute and Pugwash conferences on science and world affairs.
