The day is a public holiday in their respective countries and commemorates the men of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who lost their lives during world war one, in particular at the battle of Gallipoli in Turkey.
There will be a memorial service at the Rome War Cemetery, Via Nicola Zabaglia (Piramide) at 09.00. Morning tea will be available after the service.
In Italy 25 April is also a public holiday marking the countrys liberation from Nazi-fascist rule in 1945.
