The summer sales' season in Rome and Lazio begins on Saturday 10 July and will run for six weeks. The Confcommercio, the confederation of retail shopkeepers, has proposed a set of rules for sales shopping.

Credit cards and Bancomat should be accepted as payment for sale purchases. Items bought in the sales must be changed if they are defective or damaged but only if they are returned within eight days of purchase. They should be exchanged either for a similar item or with a credit voucher which must be used within 30 days of the original purchase. Clothing may be tried on (except for underwear) and the shopkeeper should display clearly a notice about the cost of alterations, if they can be done. The sale price, the original price and the percentage discount must be clearly marked.
