A barrier in the river Tiber, to protect the Tiber island and the surrounding area from erosion, was inaugurated by the president of the Lazio region, Francesco Storace, on 21 September. The barrier which cost more than 3 million is designed to balance the flow of the river to the left and right of the island. Recently the river has flowed predominantly to the Trastevere side of the island and was causing damage to the embankment walls and threatening the island and the bridges
