The Merchant of Venice.
5-6 Feb. Directed by Egon Savin. This production is part of a project dedicated to theatre in former Yugoslavia. Savin, who has a number of awards for directing works of ex-Yugoslav and foreign writers, transfers the action to the Venice of the early 1930s at the time of the coming fascism.
The play ends with an ominous gesture by Lorenzo who dons the fascist uniform signalling that evil days are approaching. In Serbian with Italian subtitles.
