From 15 to 19 November 2006 there will be series of concerts, the fifth organized by the Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra and known as the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra, with special emphasis on the sacred music of Mozart and performed in the major Roman basilicas. Distinguished choirs, soloists and conductors will feature, the big attraction being the Vienna Philarmonics appearance at the closing concert, in St Peters, on 19 November.
The programme is as follows:
15 November 17.00 Basilica of St Peters, Vespers with Gregorian Chant, performed by the Coro dellAccademia Filarmonica Romana under Pablo Colina.
16 November 21.00 Basilica di S. Maria Maggiore, various works by Mozart, including Exsultate, jubilate K165, performed by the choir of Cologne cathedral and Camerata Salzburg under Eberhard Metternich, soprano Laura Aikin.
17 November 21.00 Basilica S. Giovanni in Laterano, Mozarts Mass in C minor, K427, performed by the choir of Speyer cathedral and Camerata Salzburg under Leo Krmer.
18 November 21.00 Basilica of S. Paolo fuori le Mura, Mozarts Requiem K626, performed by the choir of Salzburg cathedral and the Camerata Salzburg under Jnosz Czifra.
19 November 10.30 Basilica of St Peters, Mozarts Coronation Mass K317, performed by the Wiener Philarmoniker, Wiener Sngerknaben and selected voices from the Cologne and Speyer choirs under Leopold Hager.
The Foundation is headed by Sen. Dr. h.c. Hans-Albert Courtial, with sponsorship from Daimler Chrysler Italia. The Foundations efforts this year are directed towards restoration works in the Vatican necropolis under St Peters.
