Mozart's Il Flauto Magico will be performed in Rome's Piazza del Popolo on 22 June at 21.30. The production is the same one that has just finished at the city's opera theatre and will be conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti, with singers Penelope-Randal Davis, Raul Gimenez, Eva Mei, Massimiliano Gagliardo and Marco Spotti. However, the Piazza del Popolo version will be a more popular event in order to appeal to a street audience. Much of the spoken dialogue will be cut and it will be performed almost as a singspiel and will be presented by television comic and presenter, Claudio Bisio. This is the city's second experiment with opera in Piazza del Popolo, after the overwhelming success of Don Giovanni two years ago.
