A Clockwork Orange showing in Rome

5 April. English language cinema in Rome.

Set in future British society, featuring a subculture of extreme youth violence, the teenage protagonist, Alex DeLarge, narrates his violent exploits and his experiences with state authorities intent on reforming him.

Stanley Kubrick's controversial 1971 adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel was quickly withdrawn from distribution in the UK, in response to allegations that it triggered copycat murders and violence, and only reappeared in British cinemas in 1999. The film was banned completely in Ireland until 2000.

The Casa del Cinema screens the original language version, with Italian subtitles, but entry is not permitted to viewers under 18.
