Equilibrio. Festival della Nuova Danza

2-27 Feb.

In its ninth edition, this cutting-edge dance festival is again headed by acclaimed choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. As always it offers a panorama of contemporary dance, hosting both emerging artists as well as internationally renowned names. During the festival the “Premio Equilibrio Roma” will be awarded to a new talent and to the best performer.

The theme chosen for 2013 is “Inevitability”: the inevitability of aging and mortality, the inevitability of oblivion; the inevitability of devastation in war, the inevitability of tenderness, of conflict, of love...  Some big names include superstar ballerina Silvie Guillem in 6000 miles Away that focuses on the inevitable passing of time; Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui who presents Puz/zle which highlights the inevitable recurrence of certain events in history, Belgian choreographer Vim Vandekeybus who focuses on memory and the inevitability of oblivion.

A new project by Gaia Saitta with Julie Anne Stanzak and Hervé Guerrisi centres on the inevitability of fear and desire, and a performance by the Tunisian brothers Ali and Hèdi Thabet illustrates the inevitability of cultural diversity.
