Tourist caught vandalising Colosseum in Rome

Israeli woman caught carving family initials on Colosseum.

Staff at the Colosseum caught a 39-year-old Israeli tourist carving the initials of the names of her husband and children into an internal pillar of the ancient amphitheatre on the afternoon of 25 April.

The woman, who used a stone to carve several letters into the Rome monument, now faces charges for aggravated damage of a building of historical and cultural interest.

It is the latest in a string of incidents in recent years involving tourists carving their names into the Colosseum's walls.
