Six new saints.
Pope John Paul II will proclaim six new saints on Sunday 16 May in a ceremony to be held in S.Peters Square. Four of the new saints are Italian, don Luigi Orione (1872-1940) padre Annibale Maria di Francia (1851 -1927) and Paola Elisabetta (1816 -1865 whose name originally was Costanza Cerioli) all of whom founded religious orders. The fourth was a pediatrician Gianna Beretta Molla(1922 - 1962) who discovered that she had cancer during her fourth pregnancy and chose to renounce treatment in order to save her child. The other two saints to be proclaimed are a Spanish priest and a Maronite monk. This will bring the total of saints proclaimed by John Paul II to 482.
