Circus Maximus archaeological area to reopen

Restored site opens to public afer seven-year closure.

The archaeological site at the southern end of Rome's Circus Maximus will reopen to the public on 17 November following seven years of excavations, restoration and landscaping works.

The site, which will be opened officially by Rome mayor Viriginia Raggi, has been closed to visitors since the €5 million works began in 2009.

Visitors will be now able to access the restored mediaeval Tower of Moletta as well as other archaeological remains dating from the Middle Ages.

The newly-landscaped site, located near the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) building, has also been equipped with paths, hand-rails and lighting.
