Caravaggio opening in Rome draws large crowds
The long-awaited exhibition of work by Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, opened at the Scuderie del Quirinale on 20 February to an enthusiastic public. Long queues formed outside the restored stables opposite the Quirinale palace early in the morning as Romans and tourists lined up to see the 24 masterpieces on display. By 22 February over 50,000 people had already booked to see the show, mostly from abroad.
The exhibition, titled Caravaggio, has been organised to mark the 400th anniversary of the Milanese artist
