Da Caravaggio a Bernini

14 April-30 July. Under the subheading Masterpieces of the Italian Seicento from the Spanish Royal Collection, this blockbuster exhibition reflects the close political and cultural links between the Spanish court and the Italian states during the 17th century.

The exhibited paintings and sculptures were exchanged as diplomatic gifts from Italian rulers keen to earn the favour of the Spanish overlords, in particular through the Viceroyalty of Naples and the Duchy of Milan.

Highlights of the exhibition include Guercino's Lot and His Daughters, Guido Reni's Conversion of Saul, Bernini's Crucifix from the Monastery of S. Lorenzo de El Escorial, Caravaggio's Salome, and Joseph's Tunic by Velázquez.
