26 Nov-6 Feb 2005. This exhibition at the Fundaci Joan Mir contains over 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs that attempt to capture the essence of womanhood. The works by 20 artists of international renown including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Joan Mir, Yoko Ono, Georgia OKeeffe, Marcel Dunchamp and Le Corbusier span the period covering the late 1920s to the 1970s. The show contains works highlighting how social and political changes brought about a new way of looking at the female form. The goal of the exhibition is to answer why and how the representation of woman has been a key element in modernity. The shows various sections start with the vision of woman as seen by other women, and moves on to the male approach emphasising the curvature the of female figure as the source of an act of love, sensuality and voluptuousness. Other sections focus on the experimental art of the 1960s.
