Top 10 outdoor venues in Rome this summer

1. Villa Ada

The 21st edition of Rome’s annual world music festival takes place on the shores of the little lake in the gardens of Villa Ada from 2-31 July. The festival offers interesting multi-ethnic and multi-cultural music including veteran American R&B musician Booker T. Jones (17 July) and seminal English punk band Buzzcocks (28 July). The festival area opens each night at 20.00 allowing the public to enjoy the ethnic food before the music kicks off at 22.00. Afterwards the dancing continues at Club Ada. 2. Eutropia

Multi-ethnic music festival providing world music and culture. The line-up includes Balkan musician Goran Bregović (15 July); Jamaica's Bunny Wailer and The Solomonic Reggaestra (19 July); Tuareg guitarist and singer Bombino from Niger (20 July); American band Pink Martini (21 July); Rome pop group Tiromancino (28 July); New York reggae act Easy Star All-Stars (29 July); and Italian rock band Marlene Kuntz (31 July). There are ethnic food stalls, bookshops, handmade clothing booths, cinema most nights, special events and, to top it all off, a disco under the stars. 3. Black Market Tiber

Each night the Black Market Tiber hosts live music and DJ sets along the river bank from 19.00 to 02.30. Guests can enjoy an aperitivo while relaxing on vintage couches and listening to rock, acoustic, soul music. The venue also stages art exhibitions, markets, and has a musical theme for each night of the week. Mondays are dedicated to American rockabilly from the 1950s, Tuesdays have jam sessions with classical instruments, while Wednesdays the DJ Sweat Drops plays funk, soul and hip-hop. Thursdays highlight a competition show with live DJ sets and dancing. Black Friday Diggin’ continues with funk and soul played on vinyl and Saturdays and Sundays offer more live music and DJ sets. 4. Circolo degli Artisti

One of Rome's best-known places to experience live alternative music, this intimate venue hosts electronica, ska, funk, punk and new wave bands from 17.00 to 04.00 every day. It has a large outdoor garden that holds yoga classes, art exhibitions, markets and movie nights, as well as aperitivi and food stands. On Fridays, Circolo degli Artisti hosts a gay night with DJ sets headlining electronica and house music. Silent Disco is also a unique feature offered by the venue on Fridays and Saturdays where guests can put on headphones and dance to DJs sets. 5. Gay Village

The Parco del Ninfeo transforms into an open-air music festival for gay people and their friends every Thursday to Saturday from June to September, from 20.00 to 04.30. Gay Village accommodates two dance floors, an outdoor gym, and exhibition spaces, as well as movie nights, discussions, theatrical performances and live music. Guests can enjoy food from the grill and dance the night away to live DJs sets. Entry is free between 20.00 and 21.00. Afterwards, admission is €8 on Thursdays, €15 on Fridays and €18 on Saturdays including a free drink. Tickets for special events and concerts must be purchased separately. 6. Lanificio 159

This former woolen mill opens its rooftop longue to music, barbeques and games from Tuesday to Sunday from 18.30 to 2.00. The industrial architectural space has been redeveloped to include a vegetable garden, an open space for socialising, and panoramic views. Guests can dance to live DJ sets and live music, enjoy amusement park rides and art exhibitions, wander through the tarot gypsy market, and watch movies at the outdoor cinema. Aperitivi are offered at sunset along with carnival snacks and meat from the grill. Admission is free but it is recommended to reserve in advance for a table with groups larger than ten people. 7. Magick Bar

Magick Bar is open daily from 18.00 to 2.00 on the banks of the Tiber River. This dance club hosts both local and well-known DJs whose live sets feature electronic, techno and house music. The venue has a trendy atmosphere with a stylish cocktail bar and offers a good menu complete with delicious aperitivi and free Wi-Fi. There are beautiful views of the river and it has a living room feel with vintage sofas, chairs and tables to lounge on while taking a break from dancing. Free admission. 8. Roma Vintage Village

This popular festival has moved from Caracalla to the former Centocelle airport site which has been transformed into a venue for music, theatre, food and drinks. Open daily from at 17.00, the venue has booths that focus on health, culture and books, movie nights, theatrical performances and cabaret shows. On Sundays visitors can browse the markets which showcase photography, paintings, fashion and food while also enjoying workshops, installations and live DJ sets. Mondays feature electronic DJ sets and Tuesdays are dedicated to Latin American music and salsa lessons. On the weekends DJs, indie rock bands and electronic musicians perform regularly. 9. Bosco delle Fragole

One of Rome’s most unique nightclub experiences, this open-air disco club is located deep in the forest of Monte Mario behind the Roman Olympic Stadium. The venue is open Tuesday through Saturday, hosting live music, dancing, cocktails and dinner. Guests can socialise and dance in the large park surrounded by greenery and beautiful views. Admission prices vary based on the event, and private rooms can be reserved for special events. Aperitivi are offered and live DJ sets feature house, electronic and popular music. 10. Apartment Bar

This trendy bar near Termini Station is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 18.00 to 2.00. Apartment Bar has opened its rooftop for the summer for guests to socialise in the garden and enjoy the cocktail bar, aperitivi for €10, and live music. Wednesdays are Destination Sanity featuring DJ sets and snacks. On Thursdays there are DJ sets and art exhibitions and on Fridays and Saturdays the DJ sets focus on soul, funk, hip-hop and popular music.
