15 July-14 Aug 2005. The operas are staged in an amazing oval-shaped arena called the "Sferisterio" which was built in 1829. Its peculiar but beautiful shape represents a challenge for stage directors and set designers. Expensive, but well worth it. The operas this year are Les mamelles de Tirsias by Poulenc and Le bel indifferent by Tutino (15-17 July), Don Carlo by Verdi (16 July-13 Aug), Andrea Chnier by Giordano (23 July-12 Aug), and Tosca by Puccini (31 July-14 Aug).
