Laurie Anderson: The Record of the Time

17 Feb-2 May. The Record of the Time (sub-titled Sound in the Work of Laurie Anderson) features over 80 installations, audio, video and art objects from the career of the legendary American artists stretching back to the 1970s. Her most recent audio work Duets on Ice sequences pre-recorded violin pieces played continuously through a speaker inside a violin while being simultaneously played live. Many of these audio pieces are timeless without a beginning or end, to give the work a temporal dimension the artist wears a pair of skates embedded in blocks of ice while she plays suggesting that the concert would eventually end when the ice melts. These elements of narrative and duration form the core of Andersons current work. Her ability to work with modern technology, fresh and original imagery, creative music and incisive narratives has made her a leading figure in multimedia art today. Entry is free.
