Monsters of Paradise, a show running in Dublin, Edinburgh, Salamanca and London, contains 20 or so recent paintings by the artist Fred Tomaselli from New York. Tomaselli fuses together a variety of materials from paint and photo-collage to leaves and flowers, in his well constructed creations probing the ideas of order, disorder and utopia. His paintings contain traces of every conceivable type of culture from Amerindian to punk rock. The collection brought together here is mostly made up of recent works that look at the artists personal perspective of the universe. It is not the first time that Tomaselli has created paintings that concentrate on the individuals orientation in the world. This often reveals the discord that can arise between nature and humanitys drive for order.
