Eve Parnell and Gian Lorenzo Bernini

The Pontifical Irish College in Rome hosts an exhibition entitled A Feather in the Sky - Cleite sa Spéir by Irish artist Eve Parnell.

The exhibition features a series of eight pencil studies inspired by the Rome sculptures of Italian baroque master Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Parnell's large-scale monochrome drawings focus on the smaller details of Bernini's sculptures  allowing the viewer to appreciate further the genius of his work — and the project is a result of Parnell's visit to Rome in the spring.

Parnell told Wanted in Rome that the exhibition opening takes place at the Irish College on 8 September at 11.00, immediately after the 10.00 Sunday Mass, and that the event will include a raffle of special prizes from Ireland.

Inaugurating the exhibition will be Ireland's newly-arrived ambassador to Italy Bobby McDonagh who comes to Rome after serving as Irish ambassador to Britain for four and a half years, during which he was influential in Queen Elizabeth II's historic visit to Ireland in 2011. He replaces Patrick Hennessy who leaves Italy to become Irish ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
