El Cimarron by Henze.
29-30 Nov 2004. Conducted by Daniele Belardinelli, directed by Henning Brockhaus, with Zelotes Edmund Toliver, Andrea Oliva, Gianluca Gentini and Fausto Bombardieri. The contemporary composer, Hans Werner Henze, began to take interest in El Cimarron in 1968 when he discovered the autobiography of a 104-year-old black man who lived in Cuba, but who grew up in the time of slavery and lived in the wilderness as a Cimarron: a runaway slave. Henzes work is in the form of a recital for four musicians.
