Danh Vo. Chung Ga Opla

11 Jan-10 Feb.

“Chung ga opla” is the literal translation from Vietnamese of “Sunny side-up eggs”, and Danh Vo is acclaimed by critics as one of the most interesting artists on the international scene today.

Born in Saigon in 1975, Danh Vo fled to Denmark with his family as a young child. His work is filtered through his personal experience as a refugee and his main theme focuses on the impact of the events of history and collective trauma on the individual. Colonialism, economic and cultural imperialism, the relationship between East and West, and ultimately war, are expressed from a personal point of view.

Danh Vo’s art merges autobiography with history, disintegrating the boundary between history and stories, between the individual and the larger horizon of world events. The artist shows a selection of installations consisting in “objects trouvés” and of manipulated objects that highlight the contrast between the monumentality of the venue in which they are exhibited and the intimacy of the objects themselves. This exhibition is the second of a series of three on the theme Accademia curated by Alessandro Rabottini.

10.30-12.30, 14.00-17.30. Mon closed.
