12-24 May 2007. In The Sleeping Beauty, choreography by Rudolf Nureyev, with Svetlana Zakharova and Denis Matvienko. Nureyev was commissioned to create a new version of The Sleeping Beauty in 1966; the ballet, which he knew very well, has always been regarded as the hallmark of the Maryinsky company and had been preserved with loving integrity by the Kirov. But Nureyev had no thought of simply reproducing the Leningrad production. He dreamed of a version which would truly reflect the grandeur of Louis XIV
