City museums free on Rome's birthday

Rome celebrates 21 April with new metro stop.

Rome’s municipal museums are open free of charge on Tuesday 21 April in celebration of Natale di Roma, the capital’s 2,768th birthday.

There is free admission to Centrale Montemartini, Museo Barracco, Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma Capitale, Museo Canonica, Museo della Memoria Garibaldina, Museo delle Mura, Villa di Massenzio, Museo Civico di Zoologia, Museo Napoleonico, Museo Carlo Bilotti, Musei di Villa Torlonia, and the newly-opened Museo di Casal Dè Pazzi.

Normal ticket prices apply to several city museums however, due to temporary exhibitions taking place currently. These include the Capitoline Museums (which remains open until midnight), Trajan's Markets-Museo dei Fori Imperiali (which closes at 17.30), the Ara Pacis, both MACRO museums (Testaccio and Via Nizza), Museo di Roma a Palazzo Braschi and Museo di Roma in Trastevere.

The city is also inaugurating a new stop, Jonio, on the Metro B1 line which replaces Conca d'Oro as the terminus of the B1 line.
