27 June-13 July 2003. The wonderful Julliard Orchestra features throughout the festival, which has a slightly shorter programme than usual but more than makes up for it with interesting and high-quality events. The opera section presents Wagners Lohengrin, while the music programme includes chamber music recitals, symphonic concerts and jazz. The successful cycle of Grandi Processi is back, with top lawyers arguing historic cases for the public to judge; this year Galileo Galilei, Dantes Paolo and Francesca and Alexis de Tocqueville are standing trial. Queen of dance Twyla Tharp performs with her company (from 10 July), and the Israeli dancer/choreographer Ido Tadmor is also a must for dance fans (from 27 June). The fascinating puppets of the Colla family are back on stage, and Spoleto Cinema is dedicated to Grace Kelly.
