30-31 March 2006. In a selection of works choreographed by Shen Wei. The Chinese choreographer, now based in New York, performed in the Hunan State Xian Opera from the age of six and was part of the first wave of students to train formally after the cultural revolution. He also studied calligraphy and watercolour painting, was a founder member of Chinas first modern dance company and won a prestigious scholarship to the USA before the age of 23. All these experiences find place in Shen Weis work, as he combines his passion for dance and visual art with a sculptural choreography and beautiful images that produce startling results.
