19 May-8 June 2005. Conducted by Oleg Caetani and directed by Graham Vick with Leo Nucci as Iago.

This opera was chosen to open the last season of the Teatro alla Scala before restoration work began. What remains of that production is only the director Graham Vick and Leo Nucci in the role of Iago. Everything else has changed: Daniela Dessi and Svetla Vassileva alternate as Desdemona instead of Barbara Frittoli and Clifton Forbis; and Vitali Taraschenko will be in the role of Othello instead of Placido Domingo. Obviously there will no Riccardo Muti either, now that he has resigned as musical director of the Teatro alla Scala. Conducting in his place will be Oleg Caetani, whose passionate interpretation of Der Fliegende Hollnder by Wagner in Rome and of Lamore dei tre re by Montemezzi in Turin were well received.
