Founded by Alain Platel in 1984, the Ballets C. de la B. has nurtured an eclectic range of dancers and choreographers, not least Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Argentinean Estaras is the latest example of a company member turned dance-maker and with Primero erscht she offers life-enhancing theatre. The programme notes explain that the piece is about childhood and first times, and that Klezmer music has a special meaning for Estaras. However Primero's fascinating melancholy is rooted in choreography tailored to each dancer's imaginative power and different technique, although Estaras still manages to create a sense of unique purpose.
