14-16 Jan. A three-day workshop entitled Adriatic Connections: The Adriatic as a Threshold to Byzantium (c.600–1453) organised in conjunction with the British School at Athens.

20-23 Jan. An international conference entitled Italy and Mediaeval Europe featuring over 30 distinguished speakers from the UK, Italy, the US, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Austria.

28 Jan. Alan Bowman (Oxford) presents The Roman Empire and the Economy: Fiscality and Taxation, a lecture in which he considers how the Romans' fiscal policies affected economic behaviour and the currency, taxation and regulation of markets. (18.00-19.30).
