A memorial event for Brendan Lynch, the Irish rugby player killed in a traffic accident in Rome on 27 January, is being held at Club Unione Rugby Capitolina on the evening of Saturday 7 September.
A large crowd is expected at the Primo Memorial Brendan Lynch which comprises a rugby tournament between Capitolina, Lazio and Fiamme Oro. Capitolina play Lazio at 19.00; Lazio face Fiamme Oro at 19.50; and Capitolina take on Fiamme Oro at 20.40.
This is followed by the rugby community's ever-popular "third half", with a dj and a barbeque during which glasses will be raised to Lynch by his many Rome-based friends, as well as family members and friends from home who have travelled to Italy for the occasion.
Tthe 26-year old Lynch left behind an impressive sporting legacy. During his tragically-short rugby career he managed to play for a number of teams in Italy, England, Ireland and Australia, and was considered one of the best tighthead props in Italy's Serie A.
