Two killed in Ischia earthquake

Seven-month-old baby saved from rubble.
Two women were killed in a 4.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the holiday island of Ischia, in the Bay of Naples, just before 21.00 on 21 August.

Around 40 people were injured in the quake which struck during peak tourist season. The area of the island worst hit was the village of Casamicciola where several houses collapsed.
However fire-fighters are hailing the "miracle" rescue of a seven-month-old baby which was pulled alive, seemingly unscathed, out of the rubble.

The earthquake in Ischia was just three days before the first anniversary of the one that hit the central Apennines around Amatrice and Accumoli  on 24 August 2016, killing 299 people.
