The preview presentation of Marco Nonio Balbos newly-restored Herculaneum statue will be held on 31 May, at 11.30am, Marco Nonio was a prominent figure in the Augustean era and patron of the city.
The head of the statue was found 65 years ago by Amedeo Maiuri. Forty years later, during the excavations of the ancient beach, the statues body was found.
The statue has been reconstructed by attaching the head to the base and can now be admired throughout the month of June (2-6pm) at the Padiglione della Barca, right at the entrance of the Scavi di Ercolano.
The copy of the statue will be permanently placed at exacty the same position as it was 2,000 years ago, on Marco Nonio Balbos terrace.
During the presentation special 3D laser scanner technology used for the Herculaneum Conservation Project will be illustrated.
