22 June-15 Aug 2004. This festival was started ten years ago to provide a launch pad for young singers and musicians and to encourage an exchange between artists in Rome and in the United States. Artistic director Stefano Vignati is on the podium for the big events including two concerts dedicated to film music (3 July and 7 Aug). The opera programme consists of six performances of Mozarts Don Giovanni, and two performances in concert form of Puccinis La Bohme with soprano Marsha Thomson. The festival also includes a multimedia event dedicated to Messiaen (4 July), a symphonic programme, a tango evening and one with Neapolitan songs, as well as performances of Tosca and Rigoletto. All 49 events take place in the splendid cloister of the Basilica of S. Clemente near the Colosseum.
