Thanksgiving festivities take place in Rome on 28 November
Thanksgiving is not a holiday widely celebrated in Rome, but there are some places where you can get your fill of traditional food and festivities on Thursday 28 November.
America’s Catholic Church in Rome, S. Susanna, usually hosts a special Mass on Thanksgiving Day. However due to temporary closures, this year the Mass will be celebrated at the church of S. Camillo de Lellis on nearby Via Sallustiana at 10.00.
The American International Club is hosting its annual Thanksgiving dinner for members and guests at the Hotel InterContinental at Via Sistina this year. Members can reserve their spot online or at the office, for full details see website.
For a fancy sit-down feast, reserve a table at Vivi Bistrot in the picturesque surroundings of Villa Pamphili. On the menu: pumpkin soup, stuffed turkey, green beans, potato puree and warm salad, followed by a choice of brownies or pumpkin pie.
For the family ambiance stop by Mama’s at Via Bellagio, from 19.00 to 21.30, where you can indulge in the traditional favourites, including country-baked ham, corn chowder and apple pie.
For a more casual affair head to the Abbey Theatre at Via del Governo Vecchio, near Piazza Navona. In addition to festive drinks, the pub is serving a full Thanksgiving banquet including turkey with stuffing, sweet potatoes and broccoli with garlic, polished off with apple pie. Later that evening there is an open mic night at 23.00.
Also serving traditional fare is the Highlander Pub at Vicolo di S. Biagio which is screening the three Turkey Day American football games: Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions at 18.30; Oakland Raiders vs Dallas Cowboys at 22.30; and Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens at 02.30.
Please note that the US embassy in Rome is closed to the public on Thanksgiving Day.
