The crush of tourists around the worlds most famous fountain is now one of its major problems. Even the shopkeepers are protesting at the overcrowding in the small area around the fountain, which also attracts pickpockets and street sellers of all sorts.

In fact experienced tourist guides now recommend that a visit during the day should be avoided if possible. The time recommended is after 2.00 and before 8.00 in the morning.
