Tano Festa. Reperti. Opere inedite 1960-1966.

20 May-20 July. This is a careful survey of one of the pioneers of the Piazza del Popolo school (Schifano, Angeli, Lombardo, Mambor and so on) that began to develop in Rome in the 1960s. At the end of his short career (1938-1988), Festa made strange, blunt, vivid, figurative paintings which, gawky and wild, foreshadowed the Transavanguardia. But here a group of almost geometric abstract works, painted in the early 1960s, finds him in a thoughtful mode: he involved himself with the play of tidy, disciplined shapes, often vertical bands, like panes of windows, juxtaposed over and over again, in subdued or bright colour. The show of these subtle constructions affords a deeper view of this still underestimated Roman (Edith Schloss).
