Rome's French Academy at Villa Medici opens its magnificent gardens to an open-air cinema festival dedicated to veteran French actor Michel Piccoli, to whom the academy's movie theatre is dedicated. The festival, now in its seventh edition, screens a selection of movies either starring or directed by Piccoli. Among his various roles Piccoli will be familiar to many Italians as the reluctant pope from Nanni Moretti's Habemus Papam, being screened on 17 July as part of the festival. The films on the programme were chosen together with the artist, to showcase the prominent role he plays in European cinema. For full programme see website.
