Storm warning in Rome

Rome cancels Via Libera due to weather warning from 11-12 May.

Rome's civil protection authority has warned of extreme weather conditions in the capital over the next 24-36 hours.

Heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and strong winds are expected in Rome and the Lazio region from the evening of Saturday 11 May until Sunday 12 May.

The weather warning has led the city to cancel it traffic-free Via Libera initiative planned for 12 May, which is also Mother's Day in Italy.
