Italys most famous and wanted mafia boss, Bernardo Provenzano, was arrested on Tuesday 11 April in a farm house two kilometres from his home town of Corleone in Sicily. Provenzano has been in hiding since 1963. Fifty policemen were used to during the arrest, but Provenzano was alone and put up no resistance. Provenzano was reputed to control a vast area of Sicily and was suspected of having political contacts. He was wanted on multiple charges of murder and armed robbery, including involvement in the killing of two famous Sicilian judges, Paolo Borsellino and Giovanni Falconi.
