State and city museums open for free in Rome on 7 October.
Italy's state-run museums and archaeological sites are open free of charge on Sunday 7 October 2018 as part of the Italian culture ministry's Domenica al Museo programme.Italy's culture minister Alberto Bonisoli had previously announced his intention to scrap the popular initiative but subsequently decided to keep it in operation during the off-season from October to March.
In addition to Domenica al Museo, Rome's municipal-run museums are also free on 7 October - for residents of the capital - for information see Musei in Comune website.
In July Rome introduced the €5 MIC card granting the capital's residents unlimited access to municipal museums for one year. The city announced in September that it had sold 20,000 cards.
Full details of Domenica al Museo can be found on the Beni Culturali website while for comprehensive list of Rome's museums consult Wanted in Rome website.
