Reinstated as a national holiday by President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in 2001, this is the day on which Italians celebrate the foundation of the republic on 2 June 1946. In Rome the traditional military parade in Via dei Fori Imperiali will begin at 10.00, while the gardens of the Quirinale, official residence of the president of the republic, will be open to the public 15.00-19.00.
