Opposition leader Walter Veltroni resigns.
Walter Veltroni has resigned from his position as leader of the centre-left opposition party Partito Democratico (PD). His resignation comes after the PD suffered a crushing defeat in regional elections in Sardinia on 15-16 February, which saw its candidate, the incumbent Sardinia governor Renato Soru, lose to Ugo Cappellacci of Silvio Berlusconi
