Netflix has released the trailer for The Two Popes, the movie in which Welsh actors Anthony Hopkins plays Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce plays Cardinal Bergoglio, the future Pope Francis.

The movie, which was filmed in Rome and the Vatican last year, had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on 31 August ahead of its limited release in cinemas in the US on 27 November and in the UK on 29 November.

The Two Popes will be available to view via digital streaming on Netflix from 20 December.

Described as "an intimate story of one of the most dramatic transitions of power in the last 2,000 years", the film sees Pope Benedict summon his "harshest critic and future successor to Rome to reveal a secret that would shake the foundations of the Catholic Church", according to the movie's press release.

The movie is directed by Fernando Meirelles who is best known for films such as City of God and The Constant Gardener.
