Vatican football.
Vatican secretary of state and avid Juventus supporter Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone has proposed that the Vatican start up a football club to compete in the Italian football league. A long-time fan and wealth of sporting knowledge, Cardinal Bertone featured as a sports announcer for a local television station while serving as Archbishop of Genoa.
The Catholic Church has a long history of supporting youth sports activities, football chief among them. No small number of big name players around the world got their start on a local parish field. Cardinal Bertone joked that the Brasilian students of the Pontifical Universities alone would make a formidable team. As for the team colours, the yellow and white of the Vatican seal would seem the obvious choice.
