Rome combats illegal tourist accommodation
5,000 unauthorised venues offering tourist accommodation in Rome.
A special police unit dedicated to combatting unauthorised tourist accommodation in Rome is to be established this year by the city, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
Rome's hotel association Federalberghi estimates that there are around 5,000 buildings offering illegal tourist accommodation across the capital.
Federalberghi also revealed that as of 30 April this year it had received 2,209 reports regarding illicit tourist accommodation in Rome, via the website Turismo Illegale.
